lead safe
On April 22, 2010, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) made effective the Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Program Rule which aims to protect people from the hazards of lead. Lead poses a serious hazard to children’s brain and nervous system. Children who have been exposed to high doses of lead are known to develop learning disabilities and a reduced IQ. Some also exhibit behavioral problems. This is especially true for those below 6 years of age. For adults, even low levels of lead can cause hypertension.
Lead enters the body when it is inhaled or swallowed and the biggest threat of lead exposure

comes from homes built prior to 1978 when lead-based paint was still allowed. Any remodeling or renovation that will be implemented on such structures poses a big threat to the health of tenants, residents, and homeowners within the area.

The EPA Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Program Rule requires all contractors performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, schools, and facilities built before 1978 be certified lead safe and follow specific work procedures that will prevent lead exposure of homeowners and tenants. Certified renovators are likewise required to undertake a training course from an EPA-approved training provider.

Upon implementation of the EPA lead rule, Aladdin Carpet immediately pursued securing its certification. Aladdin Carpet diligently complied with the EPA’s guidelines and policies and became a Lead-Safe Certified Firm on June 8, 2010. Aladdin Carpet is now qualified to renovate, repair, or refurbish homes or structures built prior to 1978. It is equipped with the skills and equipment necessary to prevent lead exposure to residents and tenants during renovation or remodeling. The certification is proof of Aladdin Carpet’s commitment to provide its customers with world-class service that values not only the quality of their work, but also the health and welfare of people. Though the certification is valid until June 21, 2015, Aladdin Carpet will ensure that they will work even beyond the framework of the guidelines and standards to ensure safety and live up to the integrity that the EPA certification signifies.
