About Ceramic Tile

For centuries, ceramic tile has been used to decorate and enhance homes and structures. Even in ancient times, ceramic tile was used to create mosaics or murals and were considered works of art. Unlike natural stones, ceramic tile comes in a multitude of colors, designs, and sizes. Because of the variety, design possibilities are almost endless.

Another advantage of ceramic tiles over other materials is that it is virtually scratch-proof and resistant to heat, stains, and water. As such, no other material is known to be as perfect for bathrooms or swimming pools. Though there are other materials utilized for kitchen or flooring, many still prefer ceramic tiles because of its affordability. It is also used to complement other materials to serve as tile backsplash or tile patterns as accents in kitchens or other parts of the home.

Ceramic tile is classified as either glazed ceramic or porcelain with various ratings in hardness, resistance, and water absorption. These are available in different combinations, depending on the area where it will be used. Flooring tiles are normally the hardest with the highest wear resistance. While those used for bathrooms or pools have water absorption ratings of less than 0.5%.
